Retro Blue

While watching Good Morning America's special deals segment, a POP Blue Tooth Retro handset was advertised for a 50% savings at   'nativeunion.com'.  I could immediately see how it would be a good device for anyone who had difficulty hearing a conversation on a cell phone.  It was easy to activate which basically means that I could do it without any help!!  I brought it with me when visiting my mom.  When she was in an 'awake state of mind', I pressed in the phone number on my cell phone to call my brother and handed her the [cordless] Retro receiver.  Since it looked like the normal phone receiver from her past, the conversation flowed easily.  [without the usual cell phone prompting, which used to be something like this...
" I'll hold the phone, Mom, and you just concentrate on talking."
And if the ear part was 'spot on....the 6 dots that you talk into never lined up.]

This is Flo on a good day reconnecting with her biddies in NJ...and being able to hear well enough to recognize the voices of her old friends.
What fun to watch.!!  And listen in on!!
"Oh, FLORENCE!! It is so good to hear your voice and your laugh.  You made my day!!"
We also called 'HoneyBunny' who used to live next door to her ,and then Gladys who was Mom's Atlantic City partner in crime. Haha.
It was effortless and successful.

What a great device.  Easy to use, eliminates up to 96% of the radiation compared to direct use of a mobile phone, and it cost me $25.00 since it was half price for that day. [Don't forget 'Retailmenot.com' for the possibility there might be a coupon code to save some money at 'nativeunion'].
Sitting in my living room, I have perched it on my shoulder as I did years ago....chatting up a storm.
Priceless.

What I meant to say was....

Has anyone noticed how often people interrupt each other?

Or begin to 'talk over' or louder to make their point?

Sometimes...it is difficult for me to get beyond it.
Comments?
Suggestions?

It's .....

After seeing the..... it's/its usage.... used incorrectly in 2 professional organizations' letters, I couldn't help myself from trying to help set it straight!!

 Simply stated:
If you use...... it's.....
you MUST be able to use the words....'it is' [ or it has] in place of it's.

It's easy.
It is easy.
It's been snowing all day.
It has been snowing all day.[past tense]

The cat ate all of it's food.
The cat ate all of it is food.???

I think my brain has a mind of it's own.
I think my brain has a mind of it is own.??????   [ doesn't make sense]

So, just get in the habit of saying 'it is' when you write 'it's' and  you will be correct.
That's what those nuns taught me many years ago...along with
'Always proof read your work one more time' to make sure... its meaning is correctly stated.

[Did you think that should have said..to make sure it's meaning was correctly stated??]
That would make it say...to make sure 'it is' meaning ' is correctly stated.

RECESS!!!  Time to play.

Again...what were the odds?

In December, I accompanied a friend to a mall that I hadn't been to in quite a while.  It has a Disney Store, and a specific kind of 'doll' was on her granddaughter's Santa list. We were going to that store
and then to have some lunch at a restaurant. Nice and easy agenda...great adventure with a great friend.

Logistically, The Disney Store is on the second level, and exactly at the entrance/exit to an elevator.  It is about 5 steps out of the elevator to enter the store.  I was wandering around looking at all of the 'stuff' as my friend chose which doll to purchase. Both of us were at the entrance to the store when suddenly, we became aware of someone screaming at their kid. It was difficult to NOT hear the scene.  As the mother yanked the 2 year old's arm bringing him abruptly next to her, she yelled,
"Get over here...what are you doing?  You could have been stolen/snatched!! You stay right next to me."
They got on the elevator and away they went.  I felt sorry for the kid, and hoped that life wasn't like that for him all the time. Not to be misunderstood, I do know the instant panic that is felt when you look down and your child has moved out of your sight in a public place.  It was the tone and volume of the public screaming that was upsetting.
Any way, the doll was purchased and we went to lunch at Pizza Uno and had a fantastic lunch!  Soup, a half of a spinach and eggplant panini, and a dessert that was delicious accompanied by lots of conversation that was fun, fun, fun!
An hour or so later, we rode the escalator down to the ground floor, and I sat on a bench while she went to get the car from far, far away.  December...Christmas shoppers....a big mall...parking the car had been an adventure and I still had a recovering foot injury that hurt to walk long distances.
Sitting on the bench and 'people watching' abit, a couple/three people came over and sat down.  A cute blue eyed boy was drinking from a bottle and stopping to say, 'Mama'. The toddler began side stepping and when he ventured pretty close to the escalator, the 'dad' got up and placed himself in between the kid and the escalator and shook his head in 'no-no' motion. Then the kid was hoisted into the man's arms and they returned to the bench to sit down.  I quietly said to the man,
"I have to compliment you because it was so nice to see the way you steered that situation without screaming at the kid.  A couple of hours ago, some little kid got yanked by the arm and screamed at by the elevator with words that I am not sure he even understood."
My friend appeared and was pointing to the car being right by the door, and we left the mall.  As we drove out she said to me,
"Do you know who you were talking to?"
"No...why?"
"That was the kid by the elevator!"
"What?? Are you kidding me? "
And I told her what I had said to the man....sitting next to the woman...who turned out to be the screamer.
We both laughed, but I couldn't help but think...
What were the odds of being in a place with hundreds of people and wind up with my conversation happening with that 'dad'?
Well, maybe he shared my thoughts with the screamer.  Maybe something good came out of the whole thing.

What's your favorite?

Commercials serve many purposes.  They may provide information, sell a service or product, and give you a chance to pop the popcorn and grab a drink before programming resumes.  There are regular and extra-ordinary commercials.  In thinking about the ones I like the most, they would be the funny ones and the surprising ones.
Here are some from my list:
The 'Dr Pepper' commercials from years ago were great.  They would have you watching some scenario, and all of a sudden when you least expected it, they would have a chorus of singers and dancers burst upon the scene and announce.
'Dr. Pepper...so misunderstood......'  and you were not expecting it.  A Gotcha Moment for sure!!
.The 'Frosted Mini Wheat ' characters who recently had a 'fiber test' run on the newest addition to acknowledge that it was indeed a member of the 'Keep them focused' group was clever.

Aflac has had some humorous and original ways of delivering their message.

Geiko has had some pretty annoying themes...I never liked the Cavemen ones, and now they are taking the 'when pigs fly' ones to the point of the absurd.  However, I LOVE the casting and everything about the, 'Happier than a witch in a broom factory! commercial to the point that I watch it to the end...every time!!

Remember...
Where's the beef?
That's a spicy meat'a'ball!!
The one where the dog snaps a Polaroid picture of the cat doing all of the mischief to prove that it wasn't him!!
Okay...your turn.  Add one to the list.  What's one of your favorites for whatever reason?  There are no correct or incorrect answers.
