Make someone happy...make just one someone happy!

Sometimes life is a 'cause and effect scenario' that is very predictable. For example, at 5AM when I got up to go to the bathroom, I knew that I'd have to be noiseless so that the cat[ who is banned from the bedroom while sleeping is in progress] wouldn't hear me and immediately deem it...morning!!! Meow...Feed me...now. Scout, stealth cat who rules, did indeed hear me, but I ignored her and went back to bed for a bit. Advantage: Me

At 7:30 I entered the dining room to find 3 places where she had thrown up dry dog food that she probably ate at 5AM ...Advantage: Scout
Scout has a way of making her point by scratching the rug, rearranging plastic bags, annoying the dog, speaking her loud cat talk, etc. until you concede and feed her. Then, after her morning breakfast, she assumes her place on the bottom of my bed for a long winter's nap.

Now my morning includes cleaning up the cat's walking trail, feed the animals, brew some coffee, fire up the computer, open the shade on the picture window, and...wait..what do I see?

A lone deer was laying down in front of a pine tree in my next door neighbor's backyard. My mom spends her waking hours trying to spot deer, and here was one just kinda hanging out and close enough to watch. So, I grab Flo's chariot[ wheelchair], arrive at her bedside, and say to the sleeping 97 year old snoring legend,"Mom, there's a deer out front. Do you want to see it?

Instantly, those blue eyes fly open and she mumbles, "There is...really?"

"Well, yeah!! Would I wake you up and then say, 'just kidding!!!' Want to get up?"
"Oh yes!!!"
So, I bring Mom out to the living room and place her in direct line with the deer, her rosary beads still dangling from her [good] hand. While she watched the main attraction, I got my coffee and her hot chocolate[whipped cream on top] . Gracie[ Flo's 4 legged best friend] jumped up in her lap, tissues by her side, and all was well with the world!!! But wait...it got better! As Deer#1 stood up and began grooming itself, Deer#2 appeared from the creek. And the two of them seemed to know each other!! Then, as they began the trek alongside the creek but in the direction away from us...Deer#3 and Deer#4 joined them. Wahoo! Four of them!!! It was great! Flo was so happy and thanked me for getting her up ! Life is good. And it certainly helped me forget the cat's indiscretion, too!

  • Nice blog. Don't know if I like them or hate them. They are nice to watch from afar; but NOT so nice when they're about to KISS your car.

  • What a wonderful thing you did for your mother by getting her up to see the deer. You knew she'd enjoy the sight, and you were right. And the deer, knowing Flo would enjoy the view, multiplied by four. That's incredible.

Your attempt not to wake the cat in the morning reminds me of our attempt not to wait the dog. She gets us up, gets herself walked and fed, then settles in for more sleep...while we're wide awake.

  • I know exactly how hard it is to avoid an early morning cat. Oliver will slap the cord on the blinds if it gets to late...

I just love how you were able to give your Mom such a simple joy and that she is aware enough to enjoy it. My friend's 98 year old Mom lives with her and is not aware like that at all...

  • Wayyyyyyy cool!! Scout reminds of the cats we had when I was married -- pure attitude. What a lovely place you live that deer rest in your yard. I'm a city gal with strong country roots so I appreciate that peace. God bless your mom -- I'm glad you made her day!

Thanks for stopping by my place!

  • By making your mother happy you also had happy sounds to work by as you cleaned up after that cat!

  • I love the story about you and Kitty, the way you keep score for her shenanigans. That's priceless. I had a puppy a couple of years ago that behaved similarly and had me keeping score the same way. I have a blog post about it somewhere.

    Great post.

  • Oh I have a catjust like yours, my sympathies, her method of ATD is peeing in the house!

    How lucky on the deer!

  • Got 5 furballs, I know what you mean.

Spotting animals here never gets old. Some come so regularly we tend to give them names.

Beautiful photo. I wonder who is more curious, the photographer or he deer;)
