So I sez to myself, "self! ...today's the day!"

With temperatures plummeting into single digits and below[zero], it became plainly obvious that I should stay home and be productive ...maybe get a grip on...the perfect storm...of ...CLUTTER!
When I went to get Flo out of the nursing home in NJ, I had most everything ready for us to meet the challenge. What I didn't realize was the amount of paperwork that would follow her. Yikes!! And my brother [God bless him] mails me copies of whatever he's done on her behalf[POA}. There's Medicare, secondary insurance info, doctor
receipts, lottery tickets[hehe], tax info, receipts, calendars, blah, blah, blah.I reached a point that everything was funneled into a big box labeled: FLO. If the IRS or Medicare wants any of the records, I'll just hand 'em the box and say, "Just like Prego...it's in there!
Tomorrow I am going to stick my finger in the dyke and stop the endless flow of paperwork. What does that mean? I'm going to respectively request that my brother retain custody of at least half of the paperwork!!! I do not want any more copies of anything!!
And then there's my stuff. My accumulated 'neat things'. I made a serious dent in hiding...[I mean organizing] the treasures that I find fascinating and I'm not exactly sure what I will do with it. Yet. I'm okay with that. I may have to get those things that raise my bed up to accommodate my organizational solution. But then, I may need to stand on a step ladder to climb into bed!! Just kidding!! Kidding!!
So, things are lookin' better. I'm working on it. Rome wasn't built in a day. And just like the diet thing, I could write the book on how to keep it from happening again. But it will happen again. And in the great big scheme of things, it's small stuff. So, how 'bout those Mets?

You know, Mare. I find I love to organize things. I put them in all kinds of folders and boxes and crates and shelves, etc. Unfortunately, when I need that particular item... sigh.... I can't figure out what logic I used to file, box or shelve it.

It's that time of the year, when we take on projects with all the good intentions of being more organized or more....something. Sometimes it actually works! Good luck.

You all sound so industrious and well organized! I shouldn't have read any of your blogs today! Ah, well, when I moved to Seattle I got rid of so much stuff and I just haven't had time to collect too much stuff since I've been here. But then I thought of one closet in my part of the house that does need some serious work. Okay, okay, tomorrow I'll get on it!

interesting post, think we can all relate. one thing i notice i need to do is stop stacking mail to look at later. the stacks take over my desk. but read and dispose of those that go to the trash immediately. also a shredder plugged in is handy. it's really a daily task of about 5 minutes to clear off the computer desk so it doesn't get piled too high-guess i should go do that now. lol

Good luck. I am trying to learn to live a clutter-free life. Trying to downsize, throw or give away extra things, keep life simple. It is a process.

I sorted through the accumulated stuff at the bottom of the hutch this afternoon, then I stopped by to read your blog. How timely! No matter how much I cull, thought, there's still more stuff here than I can deal with. I see a major lawn sale happening in these parts come summer.

ha ha ha... This would be even funnier if it wasn't all so true. I'm a lot like Kay. I always think of the best, most logical places to store things. It's just that I can't seem to muster up all that logic a second time to enable my twitterbrained self to remember exactly where that perfect spot was.
And the thought of my beautifully organized desk not getting back to being the cluttered space that most great minds seem to gravitate to is completely delusional.
Heres hoping you have a happy time taking the high road to clearing out your excess stuff.
And... how bout those Mets?

I hope your bedroom ceiling is really high... especially if you keep raising your bed to accommodate all the treasures you'll be stashing under there. ;)
Getting organized is good though... makes you feel cleansed and freer when you're done. Actually, is it ever really done?

Good luck with your organizing, I know the feeling. I'm an organizing nut. But, nothing ever seems to stay that way, no matter what or how often I do it.
