A Teacher [ Look Back] Moment...

On Monday, we took my mom to the doctor as a preventative measure when all of her cold symptoms started the 'bronchitis is next' syndrome. While we were in the room awaiting the arrival of the doctor, I found myself trying to occupy her mind for the 5-10 minutes that I knew we would be waiting.  Without even thinking, I began to 'interview her' with questions the way that I did in the classroom.  The kids always loved it, and since there was always the 'pass on that one' option, it was no stress entertainment while passing some time.  Here are [100 year old] Flo's answers:
a favorite flower: a rose
a favorite color: pink
a song title:  Star Spangled Banner
a movie star: Clara Bo
a singer: Enrico Caruso...[Be My Love!!!}
good food: spaghetti and meatballs
a person [living OR already passed] with whom you would like to have lunch with/ talk with: probably my mother
three words that describe you: nice, kind, polite
if you could go anywhere in the world: heaven [sigh~]

I had more prompts in my head, and then...there appeared the doc.  The whole scenario reminded me of former times interacting with the kids and I kind of had a twinge where I missed it...the fun parts of the classroom and the kids.  Funny how sometimes 100 is a lot like 10.

A generic question for you:
If you could trade places with someone for a day...who might that be and why?

  • Call me 'unimaginative', but I can't think of anyone I would trade places with.. I am me. I couldn't be anyone else. I would like, however, to have an occasional day in the warm sunshine, just as long as I could still be me.

  • I have trouble answering your question! But that was a cute way to keep Flo entertained! Lucky you 5 to 10 minute wait for a doctor!

  • You are so very wonderful with Flo, Mare. I like taking lessons from you. I can just imagine the sort of fabulous classroom you had.

My husband says he'd love to be an astronaut at a space station. Me? Yikes! I'm pretty darn content. Sheesh!

Oh I know! I'd like to be my 5 year old granddaughter for a day because she doesn't need any dental work for a long while and she's done with her shots until the 6th grade. She has loving parents who really take such good care of her and are constantly taking her places. Sounds like a good life to me.

  • I like being me -but also wish it could be a more lively and pain-free me. Would like to be able to travel more to even local places and keep up with my age group. Am pretty blessed tho, as I am.

  • I loved reading this. God Bless Flo. God Bless you for being such a dear daughter for her.

If I could change places with anyone, it would be with myself. I would just like to be feeling like I did before this nasty fall. I see Rambling Woods feels the same way.

  • I'd trade one day with my mom so I could get a glimpse of what heaven's is like, see my dad, and let m om have some time with my sister's and brother. I always get a kick out of little tests that make you put a wee bit of thught into the things that bring you joy. Bless you and Flo... the doc tell you everything is A-OK?
