Comfort

Do you have articles of clothing that you just refuse to get rid of because they are so darn comfortable?  I have three...a Ziggy teeshirt that feels so soft that it is in a league of its own.  It has an assortment of stains that don't come out [at least 10 years old] and so I wear it as a nightshirt. The second 'gem' is a floral short sleeved cotton dress that is kind of my official ' Relax...you're home and you can chill out in whatever makes you happy!!' Generally these two favorites do not go out in public.
The third [again more than 15 years old] is a soothing royal blue valour long sleeved pullover. The common thread with this cherished friend is again its soft touch.  Sweaters and tops have come and gone, but this one has never made it in the pile 'to donate '.  Just can't do it.  Nope.
In chatting with a friend, she told me she had a pair of thin leotard-like pants that was her favorite.  Somehow a couple of splashes of bleach happened onto them while in the wash. Did she throw them out?  Nu-uh.  Some things have the 'it' factor.   And beauty is in the eye of the beholder...or the way it makes you feel.
So, what do you keep because...well...'cause you want to regardless of the fact that it has seen better days. Fess up.

  • There are several old favorite things in my closet/drawers that I just can't part with, but the old bathrobe hanging on the back of my closet door is my "can't part with, oh no, never". It has to be almost 20 yrs. old, looks like an old heavy Indian blanket. Sleeves are frayed, there's a hole in it, but still I wear it almost every night. Even though I got a beautiful fleece on for christmas. It just makes me feel warm and cozy.

  • I had to sit down and really think about this because it was so intriguing. I was going through my whole closet in my head thinking about this question. Then my brain moved on to my drawers. That was where I found it. It's an old night gown. Bright pink. I've had it since my first year of marriage. I actually look terrible in it, but by golly... I think I'll wear it tonight.

  • well, I'm very good at throwing old stuff away...although I do still have a fancy dress I wore to my step daughter's marriage-it's too small to wear but too pretty to throw away in case I do lose weight someday...lol!

  • I'm just like you. I have my favs that I've had for at least 15 years. I have two sets of a Columbia warm-up suits when my husband first became principal of a high school. One set was black and consisted of a hoodie and the matching pants. The other was exactly like it, but in blue. I declared the black set would be my uniform for football games etc. (Go Black & White! - the school colors.) The other set was to be my Saturday outfit.

I'm still wearing both all the time. The blue hoodie is worn every single morning over my pajamas. It goes on every single evening while I lounge in my pajamas. The zipper is no longer working, and it is terribly stained. I will be devastated when it is finally trashed. What will I wear?

  • Here's the thing...the difference between you and "the people of WalMart" is you know enough...or have enough self-respect to ONLY wear them at home! Makes me crazy to see people in pj's and slippers out and about!

  • My sorta-red Land's End full-length, zippered robe, made of sweatshirt material. I've had it so long that I've forgotten when I got it. It's faded and tattered, but I love the thing. I keep hoping Land's End will sell this style and make of robe again. So far, no such luck.

  • I love all my old clothes, not to mention my worn out comfy cosy bedroom slippers.

  • I usually throw things out when they get old, but my younger daughter still wears her 2 nightgowns from 4th grade when she was 9 yrs old. She is so tall now that the gowns reach her butt. They are ragged and torn and have holes, but she insists on wearing them, alternating every other night.

  • Two 1969 'house coats'. They just don't make them like that anymore. I even bought a new one a couple of years ago, but something's just not right with it.

  • An old blue sweat shirt that says "Yosemite" and belonged to my sister is probably my oldest article of clothing.
It's warm, soft, frayed at the collar and cuffs.
Not only is it comfortable to wear but it's a reminder of a wonderful trip with my two sisters and mom.

  • My Mom was a great sewer of our clothes growing up rather than ready made. Later years, she would make us new dusters for Christmas -or "just because". I grabbed one when I had to go to the hospital last summer since it was light weight and covering. When I went to put it on, however, it had "shrunk" a lot! Can't part with it tho!

  • I have a t-shirt I bought in Munich in 1971. It is an Olympic shirt, that I purchased the year before the Olympics were there...we all remember those Olympics...the beginning of terrorism.
