I don't get it.

The elected officials of all parties and all states are doing a fine job...just kidding!!!
I generally avoid discussions about religion and politics. In an effort to clarify exactly what my motivation is for this post...it is this:
'What the heck I am missing?'
And so, I am going to jump into the arena. It is because it has become basically unavoidable. Even short snippets of the news manage to further the great divide: that would be people who are willing to give this administration [mainly...President Obama] a chance to turn things around...and those who oppose any, many, and future attempts to change things [like the health care reform].
I keep hearing about how much the federal deficit will increase because of the health care reform which will help millions of Americans of all ages. There are rallies that whil
e we are selling out our children's futures, the deficit is reaching...a gazillion dollars...Here's my question:
Why is it that I don't hear the same ranting about the gazillion dollars that has gone to and continues to be spent on the wars [initiated by the former administration] and how they have already sent the deficit into orbit?
When the current deficit activity is tossed around the media, isn't it added to the deficit that was already there reflecting the spending of previous administrators? I am not understanding why that is not as talked about...Am I missing something?
Please take notice of the fact that I did not add emotional comment to the topics of the war or the health care reform. My question is about the deficit: Why are the current changes that will cost money... getting the flack for a future federal deficit... that was already in amounts which are unimaginable... from the past?

That's a new way of looking at the deficit. I had forgotten about the wars that the Republicans started.

A pretty good evaluation of the deficits--in graph form can be found at:
Check it out if you really want to know. You can link from there to a more updated graph also.

It's enough to drive you crazy. I have the same frustrations. I stay as far away from FOX news as possible. For that matter I don't watch news of any kind anymore.

I totally agree... I don't know alot about politics but from what I understand this new health care plan might just bankrupt our state!

I agree with your statements, Mare. I wish the country would give President Obama a fair chance at turning things around. I haven't forgotten the utter mess left to him by President Bush. Obama didn't create this mess, Bush did. Now many expect President Obama to clean it up in record time. And don't get me started on Sarah Palin! I just don't see what others see in her for leadership material.

I think the "Together We Save" comment pretty well exemplified what you are saying. "I don't know alot about politics" is displayed through her "understanding" that the NEW health care plan could bankrupt the state???
The old health care system, plus the wars, plus the unregulated banking industry gone berserk are what almost did bankrupt us all.
