Zoaring With Glinda

I'm melting!!

I realize that there are many people who think that this summer has been less than wonderful. It has rained often and we had not had temperatures in the 90's more than a couple of times. I am not one of these people!! We are currently in a week long stretch of some those HOT 'dog days of summer' . The dog, I might add, is panting sitting on Flo's lap in the living room with an air conditioner on!! Speaking of Flo [Mom] I am beginning to think that I am adopted. She doesn't sweat, while I look like I have stepped out of a shower, and that is from being...at a state of rest...watching TV or playing hearts on the computer!
Where is the happy medium? Now the flower beds have to be watered at least once, sometimes twice, each day. Ok, I'm done complaining.

The ripened fruit at this time of year is so amazing. Watermelon, cantalope, and peaches...my favorite. Apples are about to make their timely appearance. My brother visited us this weekend, and we went to get some apples for him to bring home[tradition]. We also went to a flower show at a local church. Beautiful arrangements everywhere. We took a picture in front of a group of blooms on the altar, and it will remain unpublished. I look like a stranger, and Flo has a wide-eyed look about her as if The Holy Ghost has landed right in front of her!!
I sent Paul home with about 30 glads ...of which he wasn't too glad. First of all, he had a 6 hour ride ahead of him, and secondly, he hadn't yet experienced the power of those flowers. Some were for people in his office, and the rest...I said, " Surprise people and just give them away."
I'm sure he will have stories to tell. If they are printable, I'll share them.

  • I guess I'm a bit like Flo; I don't sweat much either. I am loving the hot desert summer, but when the evenings finally cool into the 80s I have to admit it is more comfortable to go walking.

Like you, I also love the fruit and fresh garden produce. We've been eating corn on the cob, tomatoes, green beans, beets and greens, and loving it. The peaches are getting close and pears, apples, and plums are close behind.

    Viva summer!

  • At least you have a sense of humor and it does give you something to blog about...LOL! Just wait a few weeks and the heat will be a distant memory.

  • When we had our heat wave, I melted, too, covered in sweat. Our flowers took a beating, but cool rain last week has refreshed the garden, and me!
I love summer fruits, too. Each day I've been having yougurt with blueberries and nectarines. You.

  • I think I know what you mean with the hot dog days you are experiencing. We have had a similar week, and it is unbearable - and no air conditioning...
I would love to read about your brother's stories with the glads...
I hope the weather starts getting cooler for both of us.

  • I hear you Mare and I do sweat..I know the heat isn't helpful to either one of us..I just heard that this August has been the 9th warmest following one of the coldest Julys. Makes you wonder... Michelle

  • Funny thing. When I was a teenager I remember my aunt telling me I was so skinny I couldn't sweat. I remember being rather insulted that she thought I couldn't sweat. I almost remember trying to get myself to sweat. No so anymore. I sweat. Easily.

I'd love to see what your brother does with the glads. :-)
