My!...What big eyes you have!

I hadn't been to the eye doctor in three years, and so I had called to make an appointment a couple of months ago. The doctor is an excellent eye doctor, but I have spent many a 'half-day' in his office waiting....then in a room waiting...then drops in my eyes and more waiting...that I am smarter now. I asked for a day when I was either his first appointment of the morning or the first appointment after lunch.

After meeting with a good friend for lunch at a restaurant [wahoo!], I continued on for the tests: glaucoma, cateract, general eye conditions. Ya know...eyeball to eyeball close with the doc..is pretty darned close!!!It was a definite invasion of my 'personal space'. Oh well, everything went well and I passed all tests with flying colors!
"See you in 3 years."
They gave me sunglasses to wear out, and as I sat in the driver's seat and looked at my dialated eyes, it reminded me of my last visit several years ago. I had taken a half -day off at school, because I figured I could still teach with no problem after the appointment. I wore sunglasses driving to school, and removed them to get things rolling. And then, one by one, I heard...
"Wow! What happened to you?"
"What happened to your eyes?"
And even as I started the afternoon and we switched classes, I still watched their eyes get as big as...??my eyes ??
"Do you have any idea what your eyes look like?"
Okay, okay, let me look. They can't be that scary, can they?

Yes, indeedy! Ooph!! What big eyes I had!! It made me look very, very weird. And that was the general reaction from the adults, too!
Had I known I would be scaring the kiddies, I would have taken the whole day!
Today, I only scared the dog when she jumped onto my lap and came into the close proxitity of 'eyeball to eyeball' contact. If dogs could talk, I think she was swearing!!
'What the ****happened to you?"

  • how funny, love your clipart. I wonder how you could teach-it takes me all afternoon to come back to normal and I can't drive myself home. It's been 2 years for me and I need to go back..

  • haha. You are so much fun! It's been years since I had an eye exam. I figure that since I can read the newspaper and drive without glasses, I am okay.

  • I guess that "wide eyed look" can be startling. Fun post.

  • Thanks for sharing. I depend on you for a morning chuckle. I had a 6th grade student one year whose eyes were dilated for two whole days. She said the doctor told her she was especially sensitive to the medication (ya think?). She was a blue-eyed blonde so she really did look different.

Glad everything was okay with you.

  • I'm glad all went well. Those drops don't seem to change me too much. I have to see my eye doctor every year because I have a cataract in my right eye that is too small for surgery and had cataract in my left eye about 3 years ago and now I have a new lens in it. The surgery is phenomenal.

  • LOL...My eye doc never has to dilate my eyes anymore as the meds I have to take do the job for me..Hope I don't get pulled over by the police with my eyes....It may look fishy..

  • I do love every one of your posts, Mare. You've got the best clipart pictures. It does feel that way when I go to the opthamologist. Is that how you spell it? They should have spell check on comments. Glad you passed with flying colors.

  • Mare;

I go to the eye doctor every year. have to in order to get a new contact scrip. The drops used to bother me a lot but now not so much. I still have to wear sunglasses home, but I would anyway. Love your take ...so funny like usual!
