Government...gone AWOL way too much!.

I watched President Obama nominate his candidate, Sonya Sotomayer, for Supreme Court Justice, and listened as she spoke.

Highly qualified, Sonya has struggled through life with more than a few mountains to climb, and graduated from Princeton and Yale. And the many prosecutor and judge positions that she has in experience speaks for itself. My two questions are:
1. Why must she be scrutinized beyond the norm by the party not in office, and, oh, she'll probably get the job because they don't have the number of votes to stop it?

2. The nomination was submitted now so that the process could be completed before Congress leaves for their August recess, thus enabling her to begin as a Supreme Court Justice October 1st. Why don't our elected and appointed government people work more than they do?

  • The most important issue is 'choice' and whether you are for or against and what will happen to Roe v. Wade At least that is the way I see it...

  • I was watching the BBC news and they were saying that America's Supreme Court could now more accurately reflect it's present population. So true. I hope everything works out OK. The Republicans will be leaving no judgement (of hers) unturned.

  • I suppose it is the job of the minority party to scrutinize. Sure wish they'd done a better job selecting that last president and VP.
Sotomayor seems to be very well qualified, as a judge and as a human being.
