The bluebirds of happiness!
I have lived in my current home for 22 years. Numerous bird feeders and birdhouses have come and gone over the years, and it has been fun watching the activity. My bluebird houses [specifically] have always been occupied with other varieties of birds. This house needed some repairs due to its popularity. It needed a new roof, and it was filled to the very top with a highrise of occupants' abandonned nests. And when I noticed that I had a new family beginning a nest, I was amazed to see that it was indeed a pair of bluebirds [NY's state bird] who had checked in first. I had never seen one prior to this!!!
And...my hummingbird feeder has been in such demand that I am going to put up another one. Pretty cool...to be enthralled by nature's small miracles. But you have to be observant and appreciate the wildlife in your own backyard.

I hope to see some hummingbirds this year. They were noticeably absent last year. It sounds like your backyard is where they all are going. :)

I saw my first bluebirds in Yellowstone and was astounded at how truly blue they were. I'm so happy you've got a lot of feathered friends to brighten your dad.

I love bluebirds! The male's rich blue coloring is especially beautiful, isn't it? Bluebirds are enjoying a comeback in Maine after being all but non-existent for many years. We have a pair nesting again this year in our backyard. You're right, you have to be observant to see the beauties of nature. I swear I never noticed a single bird when I was a kid.

I have lots of bird feeders, too. I just love watching them. And, bluebirds are so gorgeous...so are indigo buntings (blue is my favorite color). The bird in your picture is just gorgeous!
By the way... a couple of books I recommend (at your suggestion) are The Wedding Dress, by Rachel Hauck, and The Cottage at Glass Beach: A Novel, by Heather Barbieri. Both are very good. Happy reading!
