Love Grows...

Sharing some seeds of thought...
There is a grassy median in town that is extra special and regularly groomed with tender, loving care. For three seasons out of four[winter excluded], there is a group of people who regularly transform a full block's length of plainness into a beautiful and restful sight for sore eyes. In memory of a loved one, this area is constantly maintained to be a visual delight. In spring, there are different kinds of colorful, blooming bulbs and sweet smelling lilac shrubs. In summer, there's a variety of different shapes, sizes, and hues of annuals as well as flowering bushes [ like perhaps a butterfly bush or a cluster of day lilies]. In fall, you will see yellow, purple, and maybe some rust colored mums as well existing burning bushes turning their brilliant 'fall red.' It also has a hanging basket or two, a wrought iron park bench, and a birdbath/watering spot for the birds. It is a definite committment of time and energy.
I share this because I like to pass along good ideas when I see them, and I find this to be novel idea as a way to share the remembrance of a loved one.
What a testament in honor of their loved one who had passed along! And the general public gets to enjoy this ever changing landscape on the city's median.
God bless them all!

  • That is a splendid idea. Wouldn't it be wonderful if a neighborhood did it for someone who was special in their neighborhood and has passed on. I like this.

  • Wonderful idea. It makes me stop and think that if we all took a small patch of green and planted something beautiful there, how many more people could enjoy? A lovely tribute indeed.

  • Was viewing Kay's blog and in your comment you mentioned your fifth graders reading about Costeau. I am a retired elementary teacher so I thought I would just drop by and say "hi"

I agree that it is a wonderful tribute to a loved one to plant a little area in their memory. My cousin did this for this wife. He bought an empty lot adjoining their home and turned it into a small park and garden.

Looking forward to more opportunities to visit your blog.

  • Oh my goodness! This is such a fabulous idea! I love it. I wish more people would do that. There are beaches here where people have cemented grave markers into the rocks. How much nicer would this idea be!
