The Five O'Clockers

Everyday, between 4:45 and 5:15PM like clockwork, a pair of cardinals visits the sunflower feeder. It has reached the point that we watch for them because we know they will be there. Even when we don't have any other birds for days...those two cardinals show up and dine right outside our living room window. I suggested to Flo that she should name them, and she thought,
"Well, since they fly in everyday at 5 o'clock...I don't know...I guess 'The Five O'Clockers"!
As daylight stays later each evening, this dynamic duo continues to arrive as a sure thing, but the time is a bit more unpredictable.
"Flo, how 'bout giving them actual names. What shall we refer to them as instead of the 'five-o'clockers'?"
"Flo, how 'bout giving them actual names. What shall we refer to them as instead of the 'five-o'clockers'?"
Several days later, I asked her if she had seen our favorite couple yet.
"What did you rename them?"
"Cain and Abel."
"Well, you are in the correct series of books, and quite current in 21st century relationships! In this case, one brown cardinal [Eve] and one red cardinal [Adam] makes them a traditional pair of cardinals...fortunately with the ability produce future finely feathered friends!!
Whew!
And ther

Cardinals are so beautiful. Lucky that you get to see them daily right outside your window.
Birds fly into our patio to eat leftover cat food, but as soon as they see me at the window, they fly away. Boo hoo.

Another cute, funny Flo story. We don't have cardinals here. They are so beautiful, and how cool that they come so regularly.

Beautiful visitors. We don't have cardinals in my neck of the woods. I wonder why?

Cardinals are so cheery and uplifting -love to see them against the white snow and an evergreen tree. They have some neat songs, too.

I've noticed "my" cardinals like to show up at the feeder around dusk, too. I've been concerned lately, though, because only the male has shown up. I don't know if he has lost his wife, or they've divorced, or what. It doesn't seem as if she'd be nesting this time of year.
