Made to last~
Yesterday, as my mom was getting dressed, her jewelry case was placed in her lap to select rings and things for the day. She picked up a watch and said, "I haven't seen this in years. Do you know how old this is?"
"I was given this diamond watch for 10 years of service at Packard[the car co.]. "
Flo didn't believe it still worked, and so I brought it to a jewelery store. They looked it over, declared that it was certainly pre-battery days, explained the wind-up process, and guess what...It keeps perfect time!! It has to be 65-70 years old. Little joys rediscovered are such a treat. An 'old bird' and old 'watch'- both still ticking...both of them gems!

How nice is that!? I wish they still made things to last like some things used to. I have a nice little (everyday) wind-up watch I bought a few years ago. It stopped running. Will it wind-up? NO.

Sometimes new is not better, just different. I have three lovely watches that all need batteries. If I get them all three, will they all die at the same time?

As they say, "They sure don't make them like they used to."
I needed a watch last year and all my watches' batteries had died. I ended up taking my old 30 year old wind up watch. :-)

Not only is the story of the watch a great one, but isn't it wonderful that your mom still values putting on her jewelry each day?
