A Patient Cat....

This is Dana.
He is a free spirit and roams wherever he wants...
He was sitting patiently on the counter when I discovered he was actually still in my mom's room. When I approached him, he stood up as if to say,
"A little help...please?"
His sister, Marley, hangs out by the front desk most of the time. She is a bit shyer than Dana. The sign says,
"Please keep costs and cats down,
'Cat scans are expensive!!"'In chatting with the receptionist at the front desk,
I learned that the two cats checked in with a resident who moved into the nursing home. The staff shared that there were a couple of hurdles to get over, and then cats were allowed to accompany their owner.
I was so impressed with the kindness shown and the willingness to try to make it work. It is a privately owned nursing home, and the best atmosphere that I have ever seen in such a facility.
The owner has since passed on, and the cats now are 'everyone's cats'. Some people feed them and others totally ignore them. Of course it is always on the cats' terms. . They are pretty low key...
Perhaps they know they were probably 'setting a precedent' and should be on their best behavior!
They are the resident 'therapy cats'...smiled at from near or afar...
And it works. Wahoo!!

Hello Mare! Those cats sound like they are lovely spirit boosters. It's great knowing the facility is so caring. By the way, I told Peggy today that you asked about her and she was very touched. It was wonderful to see her again after two years. She looked lovely and the leukemia is still in remission. Thank goodness!

I'm reading a lot about these therapy animals, even horses, it's really a good thing.

I'm sure that pleases many of the residents. Now me, I'm not a cat person...lol!

My "CC" also loves to drink from the faucet and it's fun to watch. I bet these therapy kitties bring lots of smiles and comfort (warmth too sometimes). Just asking ... can the facility ever use a little help with feeding these kitties?

Mare- Loved your story about the two cats at your Mom's nursing home. Dana and Marley make the place more of a "home". Take care and keep feeling better.
