My personal soapbox

I've been kind of absent, yet every time I think that I really should write...I lack the ambition. Or maybe, I 'am having difficulty' [that's what I had my students say in place of 'I can't...] getting beyond 'stuff' like...

I 'intensely dislike' [hate] the political divisiveness that is never ending. I find it overwhelming and hopeless. It appears that the vocal name calling and incessant ranting about political parties knows no boundaries. At the moment that the hurtful words and/or scandalous statements are spoken, there is NO getting them back. I wish people would not say everything that crosses their mind. Many things are better left unsaid. I have now reached the point where I sometimes will say, "Now there's an example of something that I wouldn't have spoken outloud."
The shallowness of what's newsworthy doesn't seem to change. Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and the rest of crew whose lives are documented regularly serve to spotlight that there are more than one set of rules as well as subsequent consequences for ...whatever...depending upon who you are or who you know.. And the courageous[ military, nurses, firemen, police, etc.] fade in the background.
It makes me crazy that health insurance has a hierarchy of membership. I know working, educated people who are not 'in the system', have no health insurance. and as a result of this are [seemingly] forced to make choices quite different from 'the insured' seeking medical attention.

Mean, mean, mean...Why is it okay to be mean...as in publicly streaming online the private lives of anyone for any reason? If two people were involved in the decision making, why didn't either one of them wince at the very inhumanity of it. No conscience? Didn't think of the possible consequences? I cannot imagine having that on my mind for the rest of my life. The families and loved ones connected with the oppressed feel the pain forever, too.
Christmas....the madness has already begun as now many retail stores have decorated and hyped 'The Season' as of now...October 4th. Not only ahead of Thanksgiving, but now before Halloween. For the group of people without a job, money, family, or the spirit, etc. , it means that the personal depression starts sooner and lasts longer.
So, wouldn't it be a fantastic if people would mind their own business, be less judgemental and /or superior, and practice some tolerance.
There. I'm done. I hope I feel better after my 'venting session'.
I hope to be back very soon with the positive, witty commentaries.
I just need to catch up on some needed shut eye!! Mine and Flo's!!!

  • I agree completely. I have to shut a lot of it out or I get too depressed from that "hopeless" feeling. I don't watch much news anymore. It's too sad. I hope you feel better. Sometimes we just have to get it all out.

  • Yes, why are some people so mean! But, you know what, they simply make the kind ones glow.

  • Okay, so I taught...from the ground floor...probably close to 700 people how to read. And sometimes I wonder if I should have tried to do more with my time on Earth. Then, the actions of "important" people like PH and LL are documented. Or someone like Alberto Contador who worked his whole life to become an accomplished bicyclist CHEATS and says he ate too much steak!!! Hello!!! There are people who look up to you and admire your accomplishments...your fellow Spanish countrymen. Just come clean...literally!
Politicians...tell us what's right about YOU!!! Leave your opponent out of your rhetoric!
So things are in a mess everywhere and I guess we need to just keep being the best we can be...and raise our children and their children to be the best they can be, too. Control what we can control!

  • Poeple aren't different, but the instant media are. Now the insults, the invasions of privacy, the meanness can go world wide, and the result is devastating.
Political advertising reflects what works, and what works is negative attacks. Doesn't say much good about us, the audience. But I agree, we have to operate within our sphere of influence, and your venting is one small way of trying to influence for the good.

  • Venting is therapeutic. That said, I'm working hard to re-elect my Congressman because the alternative is more than I can bear. Will it change anything? I don't know but if I do nothing it for sure won't change anything. I have to follow my conscience and do my duty as a citizen.
