Would you like to be interviewed?

In my teaching bag of tricks, there were many ways to use some unexpected minutes [10 minutes]. Sometimes I'd read the chapter book that we were into, and other times I would get out my deck of cards [each card had a kid's name on it], choose a card and ask that person, "Would you like to be interviewed?"
They could accept or pass. Most readily accepted...they knew the process. When asked questions by me and their classmates, they had to be truthful, and they always had the option to 'pass'. It was understood that ridiculous or embarassing questions were not allowed. It was a great way to get to know the kids, and they loved it. Here's the drill:
They got to go sit in the rocking chair and I would always begin with, "Tell us your entire name.
Do you like your name?
Any brothers or sisters...how many...what kind? [I meant are they brothers or sisters, but occasionally they'd give other details like 'really cool' or 'very annoying'!] "
The kids would ask questions like...
What's your favorite color?
What's your favorite game...holiday...number...sport...TV show...etc.
But interspersed amidst their questions, I had a prepared list[20] of specific ones. I'm going to give you 3 of them, and you must be truthful, but remember that you always have the option to pass.

1. If you had the opportunity to have lunch with anyone [living or from history], who would it be and what would you ask them?
2. It's your lucky day. When you come to the dinner table, all of your favorites are on the table!

3. Tell us three things you do well. It can be a skill, or it can be as easy as 'I get up in the morning in a good mood...I have a good memory.
So go for it. Answer the ones that interest you. It should be fun!!

Hey, some fun ideas for a party and getting to know each other better. Here goes:
1. I would invite my father who died when I was only 5 years old to dinner and I would ask him about his life since he left-what he's done, if he was able to watch my life unfold, how he feels about his experiences in heaven, how my mother is, etc.
2. My favorite food would love some of grandmother's hot out of the oven white homemade bread with real butter. Other foods-whatever. Desserts-I'm avoiding, no sugar in my life anymore.
3. What three things I do well-teach classes to adults, write articles, and communicate with others.

Mare, what a great meme this would be. Tagging a few people and then them having to tag others. I'm going to think about this and get back to you.

Good idea Mare..how are you feeling?
1. Dalai Lama came to mind first and he is in the hospital...
2. Food..Something I like to eat, but don't eat is anymore. Prime Rib, mashed potatoes and carrots and a hot fudge sundae
3. Hmm..I am good at getting things done..making calls, tracking down info, things like that.

Gosh, Mare. I'm so bad. I'm sitting here thinking of an answer to the first question.... who to have lunch with and my mind went blank. I'd be a bad student. I love your idea for the class, though. That's a nice ice breaker, too.
I can answer the food question though. I'd have wun tun min which is a sort of Hawaiian ramen with dumplings. Then I'd have a chocolate sundae.
Three things I do well? Organize, create photo albums, loving my family.

1: The Savior. And what WOULDN'T I ask Him? I have so many questions.
Plan B: I'd want to have my parents for lunch. One more time. And, I'd eat really, really sloooooow... and ask them a million questions. "What's it like on the other side?". "How's Nancy, Allen, my grandparents?"
2: My meatloaf, my mother's macaroni and cheese, Mimi's Cobb Salad, Ice Water (maybe a Jamba Juice) Gandolfo's chocolate cake, or my grandmother's bread pudding.
And don't forget Red Lobster's hot cheese rolls.
3: a: I relate well with most people. I can put them at ease... learn a lot about them in a short period of time. I honestly care about everywhere.
b: I'm creative in a lot of areas. ie: I wrap a mean gift package! Decorate well for holidays... come up with fun things to do.
c: I'm a good motivational speaker, teacher.

Well, one of the things I do well is read a map (sorry!). I'm also very good at directions. Sometimes I think I have an internal GPS (didn't know what to call it before they started selling them).
