Here, there, and where???

I am convinced that hell is ...looking for lost stuff. Sometimes things are lost for long periods of time, which is so-o-frustrating. For example: I had a tape of many events in my son's life, and to surprise him I had it made into a DVD because I was afraid that the tape would deteriorate over time. It began with his speech at his 5th grade graduation[age 10] when I borrowed a friend's video recording camera. And then I added to that tape and captured all kinds of events. It included his cousin's Baptism party with classic footage of his Grandma Flo, an evening local news package of his father at work, and marching band events, too. He had a concert 'trombone solo' as a high school senior, and sitting next to me was his friend's mom taping the concert. I borrowed the friend's recording and had Jer's solo part copied onto 'the tape.'

When he told me Wayne Mahar [local weather meteorologist] was going to broadcast from his dorm, I got out the tape and added it.

There were things on there that he wasn't aware even existed. I couldn't wait to wrap it up. It was such a personal and unique event collated by a crafty lefty [mom] who didn't own a Camcorder and yet managed to document people and events in his life for posterity. So how does this relate to 'lost things'? Well, when he came home for Christmas[semester] break, I saw the DVD on the counter and quickly ditched it out of sight.to preserve the surprise element. Then, I could not remember where I had hidden it...for about two YEARS! It made me crazy! As I walked through the house, I was constantly on the lookout for it. And I looked in the same places over and over. It certainly was a joyous occasion when I bumped into it! But...what a pain .....

There is always, always, always something that I am looking for at all times. It's a curse!! And that is why I believe it to be 'hell on earth.' So, what is it that I am currently not able to locate?

I had one more day[today] left of my 'pulled tooth' antibiotics. The last time I had the prescription vial in my hand was last night when I took the evening dose. Today as I was getting ready to teach Day 1 of the 'Safe Driving Class', I could not find it. When I returned at two o'clock and looked for it again, I still can't find it. I cannot imagine where it went. It makes me flippin' crazy!!! Crazy! Crazy!!

There must be a poltergeist ...'They're baaccckkkk!

or ...the hurly burly prescription snatcher...or something.

Who knows? Whatever!!

I am in awe of how many times it happens to me. And I know all about 'A place for everything, and everything in its place!' I guess I can sum it up in two words:
Compost happens.
It isn't just me...is it?
Say it isn't so!!!

Post Script Update: The cat has been paw printed and charged with medical tampering. My pills that were on my nightstand were found WAY under my bed. She must have knocked them onto the floor, and ...like a hockey puck...slap shotted them under the bed!!
At least I know...that I haven't lost all of my marbles...the cat has been dispersing them randomly on my behalf!!

  • It's not just you! it happens to me all the time - especially in school when I can't find the papers I need for class that I JUST HAD IN MY HAND!!! - Or my glasses - those are the classic things that I lose, which is why I have them in every room of my house and at least two pair in school. I believe it is your creative mind that just can't deal with "mundane issues" like where you put your prescription. Did you talk to Tony? He'll find it for you - eventually. GNSJ

  • I was so afraid this was going to be a sad post I had to stop reading and come back later! You cannot lead us on making it sound like it is going to be an epic failure that you lost all of your sons memories. How dare you toy with my emotions! jk I am sorry you lost your antibiotics and as a nursing student I Know how important it is to finish them. However, on this case I am willing to make an exception just because I am so happy you did not lose your sons tape.

  • join the group, we all loose things. This morning I couldn't find my glasses well they weren't on my computer where I usually put them or in the bathrooms or on my chest of drawers BUT they were on the kitchen table where I had a late night snack. You just have to discipline yourself to always put them the same place. I'll try to remember that tonight. lol!

  • I can truly, truly relate to this. I often FORGET where I've decided to hide (store) something. I've had to try to become more organized. Then when I can't find something, I have to try to figure out what the heck I was thinking. I often find things months later when I was looking for something else.

  • Yep! I'm your twin when it comes to misplacing things. And the place it bugs me the most is school. Probably the staff thinks I've lost my mind b/c I tell them all the time..."i just had it...it was just right here". It makes me crazy, too! I don't think I'll ever be rid of the I lost it curse. mls
