Happy Trails....
Another 'Safe Driving Class' in the record books...another 22 safer drivers on the road. Wahoo!! The only predictable thing about gathering a random group of 'over fifty' folks to talk about driving is...laughter. Except for the couples who sign up together, most people don't know each other, and it can be very entertaining. Those who are comfortable sharing stories and making jokes have an audience who 'learn while laughing' as we roll through the chapters. And even the quiet ones begin to relax and participate more freely. Or they may prefer to remain more of a listener, and that's fine, too.
By the second day, we're all looking out for each other.
In the midst of discussing the rules about car seats, seat belts, etc., I was trying to make the point that as adorable and wonderful as those grand kids are..they still need to ride safely. Our workbook states that kids under the age of twelve are safer in the back seat especially because of the airbag that could really injure them. Saying that,

"So even though those cute little angels 'try their best' to convince you that they should ride in the front seat with you, buckle them into the backseat!"
From the middle of the room , a suggestion is shared:
" Ya know...After one ride in the trunk, they don't ever complain again about riding in the back seat!!" [Haha! He was kidding!]
My favorite moment was at the end. I knew from our discussions that there were participants who had a motor home. So, I thanked everyone for joining the class and how nice it was to meet them. And I sa
id the words, 'Happy Trails" ...and a chorus rose from the group,
id the words, 'Happy Trails" ...and a chorus rose from the group,"to you...until we meet again!
Happy trails to you,
Keep smiling until then.
Happy trails to you...
'Til we meet again!"
I have to say ...the smiling, singing faces were the best!
People should sing more often.
And there you have it!

I love your ending! Tom used to sing that song every day with his kindergarten classes as they prepared to go home.
And you're right, people SHOULD sing more.

Mare,
That's an old song. Was it The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans show theme song? Not from the Long Ranger, right?

Regarding teaching a class. I hadn't thought about it, but I should. I haven't been in a classroom in a very long time....Thank you for reminding me Mare.. Michelle
